It’s midsummer’s day today and with the temperatures creeping up to the 30s this week, our thoughts are turning to interesting ways to keep cool. What better way than making the most of the watersports at our very own Béznar reservoir?
Our glistening reservoir is at the geographical heart of the Lecrín Valley and for the past two summers we have had the added bonus of being able to use the new water sports centre based at the Béznar shore to sail, kayak, windsurf or paddle surf.
As is the tendency here in El Valle, this is a low-key set up and perhaps calling it a water sports centre is exaggerating slightly, given it’s run out of two shipping containers (!), but what counts is a very friendly service and decent equipment, all offered in an unbeatable location.
José Antonio and his team of expert instructors at Aventura Alpujarra Centro Nautico are passionate, knowledgeable and transmit their huge enthusiasm to all, regardless of whether you wish to hire a pedalo for half an hour or sign up for a windsurfing course (there are courses over the summer).
A trip here makes a refreshing change from a visit to the beach, allows you to cool off while avoiding the crowds and offers a stunning opportunity to contemplate the silence of the Lecrin Valley with a new perspective of the villages from the middle of the reservoir.

Once you’ve finished your Watersport endeavours, grab a table at the picnic zone and gulp down a cold beer or an ice cream whilst enjoying the welcome breeze that comes off the water.
The small bar opens every evening in summer and at the weekend, it often hosts live performances by local artists with drinks and tapas.
